After trying a variety of yoga classes, she began to view yoga not only as a form of exercise but as an outlet. Brittany strongly believes that yoga is designed for all. She encourages each individual to come as they are, use what they have, and do what they can. Yoga has taught her to challenge herself and that the benefits will quickly follow. With a background in physical therapy, Brittany teaches an alignment based class focused on combining breath and movement. She strives to teach each of her students the balance between effort and ease as well as the benefits of the asanas both physically and mentally.

Philosophy
Yoga is for all.  Everyone can do yoga with compassion for the self.  It is a balance between challenge and self care.  Yoga is calming for the mind, fun for the soul, and transformative for the body as a whole.  Yoga is a union, not only of body and mind, but teacher and student.   The practice of yoga is built on the shared experiences of the two.   The practice evolves as one becomes more aware of their body and mind. As a teacher, I am a facilitator and co-learner, each day learning something new through our experiences together. Let your Yoga Journey Begin.

Monique Stewart -  Monique is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with 200 hours of yoga training in Integrative Yoga Therapy from Sundara Yoga  in Austin, Texas.  Hello! My name is Monique and I was born and raised here in Bryan/College Station.  I had done yoga on my own off and on with DVDs for about 10 years but then came back to it in earnest in 2012 as a way to get some stress relief.  So I enrolled in a class here at Studio Yoga!  But what I found and experienced went much beyond stress relief.  Do you remember a time, perhaps when you were a child, when just moving was more fun than you could possibly imagine?   Exploring all the different ways our bodies could move with curiosity and wonder with absolutely no judgement?  Each movement, no matter what it was, big or small, intricate or jumbled (and sometimes tumbled!) was a celebration.  This is what yoga has brought me to remember.  Any age, any body, has the opportunity to move, breathe and experience wonderful things.   This was all too good not to share so in the fall of 2012, I did a 200 hour yoga training in Integrative Yoga Therapy with Sundara Yoga Therapy in Austin, TX so I could be certified to teach.  And here I am.

Oh, and the lovely little redhead sitting next to me.... that's my "neice", Kara, a very exuberant Brittany.  I consider her to be the poster child for "joy through movement" which is what I try to bring to each practice.... minus the barking and digging.

Michele de la Bastide - Michele discovered yoga in 2005 after injuring herself, and her biggest challenge was accepting that she had to ‘rest’ or ‘go easy’. At that time, she was living in Trinidad and Tobago and had the fortune to become a student of Karen Stollmeyer who founded the ‘Bliss Yoga Studio Trinidad’ and is an honoree member of the International Yoga Council. She has attended numerous workshops and courses with Swami Brahmavidyananda Saraswati of India, who founded and directs the ‘Institute for Holistic Yoga - Satyananda Ashram’ in Miami Florida. ‘Swamiji’ as he is affectionately known, is the foremost direct disciple of Swami Satyananda Paramahamsa and she received her teacher’s certification from him.

She enjoys teaching many styles of yoga, with the emphasis on combining awareness of the breath, of physical movement and thoughts arising through the practice. Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) is perhaps one of her favorite classes to share with others. It consists of listening to a guided meditation, while lying down comfortably. It allows you to experience the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness and has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. Michele also trained and worked as a professional dancer so, of course, she enjoy all things ‘dance’ and incorporates some of those movements into her practice! Meeting people and sharing the gift of yoga is a source of great joy to her. She strives to offer a safe and peaceful space, where students can come into their own wisdom, finding joy, peace and power through their practice, as well as heightened self-awareness and balance both on and off the mat.

Julie has been practicing yoga on and off since 2010, honing in on a consistent practice since 2014 to help relax and destress her muscles and body after long nights of studying and writing papers. Plagued with chronic inflammatory muscle fatigue, moving isn’t always easy, but Yoga has made a huge difference on how her body and mind feel each day, and she cannot wait to share it with you!

She’s a huge proponent of a sustainable yoga practice, meaning she’s all for teaching others how to make yoga work for your body and training your muscles to relax and stretch so you can recover from your other workouts faster, and be ready to tackle the next even better. Restoration and relaxation are your friend, and she’s here to make sure y’all stay very much in touch!

We are a Yoga Studio that strives to transform the body, invigorate the mind, inspire the spirit and empower clients to live a better life. Studio Yoga features Hatha Yoga, which is a path of physical control that helps create balance in the body. The word breaks into the syllables “Ha” meaning “Sun” and “tha” meaning “Moon”. Hatha Yoga is the balancing and harmonizing of the opposing forces of the body. Physical postures (Asanas) and breathing exercises are combined to create mindful awareness throughout the body.
